Ambiguity often appears during the use in English, whose situation is very complicated with different effects. In this paper,ambiguity in English is mainly studied from the viewpoint of pun and its effect. It is to explore and induce positive effect of ambiguity and its proper use through the effect of pun,which makes the positive signifi-cance of English ambiguity developed.

Euphemism is one of the writing techniques. There are three beautiful style circumlocution, metaphorical expression and pun euphemism. Circumlocution focuses on “saying on circumbendibus, showing images for expounding meanings”;metaphorical expression focuses on“the original meanings are hidden, changing the subject in order to borrow some homophones to express the puns.” A pun euphemism focuses on“writing apricot flower directly, implied the beauty of spring.”If we are able to master its writing characteristics, we can use euphemism skillfully and properly. A perfect piece of works must be achieved by the artistic effect of subaudition and implications.

根据关联理论,翻译的成功与否取决于对关联原则的遵守,即交际双发的互明和最佳关联性。直接翻译和间接翻译是关联翻译理论下的两个基本翻译策略。歇后语描述部分的翻译采用直译、直译加注或间接翻译的方法,而在释义部分采用双关修辞的歇后语运用间接翻译的方法加以翻译。

The Chinese Xiehouyu is rich in its language resources, and the rhetorical devices employed in it are various. According to the relevance theory, the success of translation depends on the accordance with relevance principle, that is, the mutual manifestness and optimal relevance. The direct translation and indirect translation are two basic strategies from the perspective of relevance theory, the aim of which is to establish the optimal relevance. The translation strategies of the description part of Xiehouyu, including direct translation, direct translation with notes and indirect translation, should be based on the language resources and target readers cognitive level and cultural background, while the translation of the explanation part with puns should use indirect translation for the establishment of optimal relevance.

广告是一种应用语言，其目的在于向受众宣传某种观念或推销某样商品，其不可替代的社会语用功能使之成为语用学研究的一个重要领域。而双关作为一种富有内涵的特色语言，被广泛运用在广告中来提升广告价值、吸引受众眼球。本文基于奥斯汀的言语行为理论三分说，结合实例对英语广告双关语的语用特点进行分析。

Pun, a word or phrase with double meaning, is often used in the language of advertisements to promote the value of the advertisement as well as attract the viewers'' attention. On the basis of Austin''s speech act theory, this paper makes a detailed analysis of many concrete examples and presents a study of the pragmatic features of English advertising language.
