In order to explore feasibility of hardwood cutting propagation in Ulmus macrocarpa and some related techniques, taking the stems of two years container seedlings in U. macrocarpa as research materials, the effects of medium, cut shape and exogenous GGR treatments on survival rate and cutting seedling quality were investigated. The results show that U. macrocarpa has a good rooting ability for hardwood cutting. The different treatments of medium, cut shape and exogenous GGR have no signiifcant effects on survival ratio, seedling height, new branch number, stem biomass, root biomass and lateral root number. In production practice, to select peat as cutting medium, to use double-bevelling cut shape and to treat cutting slips by 100 mg/L GGR solution are suitable for hardwood cutting propagation in U. macrocarpa.

Using the main varieties of Hippophae rhamnoides (Hippophae rhamnoides‘Liaofu No .1’ ,Hippophae rhamnoides‘Shiyou No .1’ ,Hippophae rhamnoides ‘China’s first generation hybrid’) as experimental materials in western Liaoning Province ,comparative experiments of the hardwood and softwood cuttages for Hippophae rh-amnoides were conducted .The survival rate was investigated .Result shows that :the survival rate of softwood cut-tage of Hippophae rhamnoides are higher than that of hardwood cuttage for Hippophae rhamnoides under the same substance and density ;the survival rate by using two cutting methods have no significant difference under the same age of cuttage .

For the breeding and spreading native tree species of Celtis sinensis ,to research hard branch cuttage rooting of fine varieties of Celtis sinensis ,the article has carried on test of different substrates , different cutting age and different cutting time .The results show that Spring cuttings of hard branch with Celtis sinensis is relatively ideal ,cuttings rooting rate with branch of Celtis sinensis of five years and sub‐strates of yellow subsoil + pearlite proportionis is high .The results will provide the seedling breeding technology to promote new varieties afforestation of Celtis sinensis .

Using the hardwood and softwood of Cyclocarya paliurus as cutting materials,the influences of medium heating, application of ABT and GGR,humidity of media and air and cutting collection positions on cutting rooting rate were studied. Results showed that the medium heating improved significantly on the rooting rate,and the rooting rate was up to 35. 6% under the heating treatment with cuttings soaked in 400 mg/ L ABT 1 + 400 mg/ L GGR 6 for 6 hours. Different humidity of air and medium significantly affected the softwood cutting rooting rate. Air humidity of 70% was preferred for softwood cuttings of C. paliurus,while about 30% of medium humidity was suitable when perlite + peat soil(1: 1)was used as medium. C. paliurus belongs to difficult rooting tree species. From the view of the cutting rooting rate,cuttings from the upper section of branches was better for softwood cuttings,while cuttings from the basal section of branches was more preferred for hardwood cutting.

In order to improve cutting technology and provide seedling guidance for production of several main tree species in Southern Ningxia area,effect of different concentrate of ABT1 and Guoguang rooting powder on callus forming time ,rooting time,root number,mean root length and survival rate were studied.The results showed that the concentrations 100 mg/kg of ABT1 and 4 500 mg/kg Guoguang rooting powder had obvious promoting action on hardwood cuttage of Populus tomentosa and Populus bolleana.The concentrations 150 mg/kg of ABT1 and 6 500 mg/kg Guoguang rooting powder had obvious promoting action on hardwood cuttage of Ailanthus and Ash.Both high and low concentration inhibited hardwood cuttage. The optimum concentrate of Guoguang rooting powder was better than ABT1 rooting powder.Due to the difference in tree species ,Populus tomentosa and Populus bolleana was easier rooted than Ailanthus and Ash.
