通过定量分析考查了词汇宽度和深度在非英语专业大学生成功推测词义和通过阅读附带习得词汇中的作用。136名被试阅读了含有13个假词的材料并试图推测划线目标词的含义;通过词汇宽度测试(VLT)和词汇深度测试(WAT)分别测量了被试的词汇宽度和深度;用词汇知识量表(VKS)测量了所推测词义的长时记忆。相关分析和多元回归分析表明:词汇宽度和深度与所推测词义的长时记忆呈正相关关系,但词汇深度相关程度更高;词汇宽度和深度得分与通过阅读成功推测词义显著正相关,但词汇深度的预测力更强。
This paper examines the role of lexical breadth and depth in EFL lexical inferencing success through reading in the context of Chinese non -English majors.136 participants read material with 13 pseudo words and were urged to infer the mean-ing of the underlined target words.VLT and WAT were administered to measure the students’ lexical breadth and depth re-spectively.To rate retention of inferred meanings ,VKS was administered with a repeated measure design.Results indicated that both breadth and depth of lexical knowledge correlated positively with long -term recall of inferred word meanings but the lat-ter showed a higher correlation.Besides ,scores of both breadth and depth of vocabulary knowledge had a significant positive correlation with success of lexical inferencing ,but the latter proved to be stronger predictor.

Using a free word association task and a vocabulary test, this paper investigated the English mental lexicon as well as the Depth of Individual Word Knowledge (DIWK) of Chinese English learners. The findings reveal that semantic links play a crucial function in subjects’ mental lexicon, and their semantic network of nouns and adjectives is superior to that of verbs, with paradigmatic knowledge growing signiifcantly and syntagmatic knowledge lagging behind; mental lexicon exerts an important impact on subjects’ DIWK development; and the construction of suitable L2 mental lexicon organizational model helps strengthen the semantic links between words and their knowledge, and accelerate context-specific meaning extraction and word association.

Objective To explore effective ways of vocabulary learning through investigation of medical college students . Methods Vocabulary learning of 200 medical college students from grade 2010 (high-score group and low-score group)were investigated by self-made scales. Exploratory factor analyses were conducted by PASW Statistics software. Vocabulary learning of two groups was compared by independent-samples t test. Results There were statistical significances in factors of‘attitude’ (P=0.000),‘methods and strategies’(P=0.000),‘vocabulary depth’(P=0.010)between higher-score and lower-score students and there was no statistical significance was in ‘importance of vocabulary’ (P=0.099)between two groups. Conclusions Attitude,methods and strategies as well as vocabulary depth play a central role in vocabulary learning.

So learning more words and having a deeper and better understanding of them will assure you of great competence in daily lan-guage practice, and even of the development of the thinking patterns in the use of foreign languages. Furthermore, students will become more active in language learning because of the progress they have made. In this case, it is very important to find out efficient ways in Japanese teaching to give students a big push to a higher level. Years of Japanese teaching experience gave the author of this essay a distinct advantage in developing some useful and prac-tical ways of Japanese teaching and word learning.

Vocabulary teaching is the base and core in the university English teaching. Exploration of English vocabulary teaching model at this stage to improve learners’"vocabulary"ability. However, in the study of vocabulary as the foothold of most vocabulary teaching methods, and neglect the main vocabulary learning. This paper combines the theory of vocabulary teaching, emotional education psychology theory and statistics research methods, under the guidance of the investigation and analysis of the empirical data, different levels of learning, hierarchical teaching under the background of learning in English vocabulary of emotional needs, vocabulary breadth and depth are compared, analyzed and summarized. Combined with the practical teaching experience, this paper discusses the classroom design and teaching strategies of vocabulary teaching in different levels, in order to teaching researchers to carry out effective vocabulary teaching to provide effective guidance.

The basic role of vocabulary in English learning has been generally affirmed, but there are still many problems in Chinese college students'' methods of vocabulary learning. Vocabulary learning is one of the crucial steps in second language acquisition .Effective vocabulary learning strategies facilitate students improve their vocabulary levels to a large extent .Based on cognitive process of SLA ,this study investigated 202 female students in tertiary college on their vocabulary learning strategies and tested their vocabula-ry size .The finding showed that female students can employ lots of metacognitive and cognitive strategies to improve vo-cabulary learning including deep level processing and mechanical strategies .In addition ,correlation was found between vocabulary learning strategies ,which were helpful to vocabulary learning ,and test results in female students .
