As their patron, the Society of Jesus controlled the Jesuits’ translation of the Bible in late Ming, which is the historical background for Shengjing Zhijie’s (the direct interpretation of the Bible) production and decides its cultural orientation. The Shengjing Zhijie’s translation of the selected texts of Gospels, as a whole, doesn’t “accommodate” the thoughts of Chinese people in late Ming, instead, tries to highlight Catholic ideas in Gospels by “directly translating”the selected texts and being faithful to Society of Jesus and the Bible; its “direct interpretation” also demonstrates that the Catholic culture is considered as the “central culture”, not tolerant of target culture and without the idea of cultural co-existence.

Plato’s Laws, a dialogic ancient Greek work, has been translated into several languages and exerted an important influence on the development of the world’s law. In China, this work was translated from an English version and later from the Greek version, from and an abridged version to the whole version, from an introduction of the relation of law and literature in Plato’s literary thoughts to a comprehensive introduction of his thoughts on law. Therefore, the translation of Laws has been gradually shifted from the literature field to the legal and philosophical fields. The Chinese version has been one of the important works to understand Greek thoughts, which makes up an important part of China’s history of jurisprudence and legal thought courses.

Based on the structures and functions of scenic spots names, the author puts forward the corresponding translation strategies from the perspective of cross-culture communication. Literal translation is suitable for the translation of the scenic spots named after forms or a combination of forms and spirits, and liberal translation suitable for the translation of names after historic stories and myths. And transliteration is adopted for the names of historic figures or names of places, while the combination of transliteration and liberal translation can be adopted in the translation of such scenic spots names as one-syllable names or names of metaphor.

In this issue , Norman Daniels , professor in ethics and population health from School of Public Health of Harvard University is introduced in the column of "International Bioethicist".His current research focu-ses on "fairness benchmark".The first part is about his academic career .The second part is the partial translation of his masterpiece , "Fairness and Population Health: A Broader Bioethical Issue", in which issues of what we have to do for health equity , international fairness and healthy , fairness in different age groups and the birth cohort under an ageing society situation were discussed .In the article , he called for initiatives in bioethical workers .In the third part , the characteristics of public ethics , the importance of ethics investigation in population health , the reasons for global health becoming the hot topic and some more important ethical issues were discussed .
