By measuring the width of head capsules of the alfalfa seed chalcids' larva,Bruchophagus roddi(Gussakovsky).The results showed that there were 4 instars in larval stage of the alfalfa seed chalcids.The average widths of head capsule from 1 to 4 instars were(0.182±0.0093),(0.261±0.0093),(0.346±0.0098),(0.448±0.0109) mm.The linear regression equation of the instar(X) against the width of head capsule of larvae(Y) was:Y=0.0883X+0.0885,and r=0.9982.

This study was conducted to analyze biological characteristics of Bruchophagus roddi (Gussakovsky) of the main pests of alfalfa seeds.The result demonstrated that there were three generations in a year at Hutubi area in Xinjiang,and the third instar larvae overwintered in alfalfa seeds.Overwintered larva starts pupation in the next April and emergenced in in the first ten-day period of May.The first generation adult emergenced in the first ten-day of July,while the second generation adult emergenced in the third tenday of July.Adults were actively flying between 10:00-14:00,sex ratio was about 1.34∶1.There were different effects of different nutritional conditions on adult longevity and fecundity,of which the life of adults who were fed on honey water was the longest,their fecundity was the highest.

By measuring routine nutritional components of some alfalfa hay bales from Changji, Tacheng and Bole in Xinjiang, results showed that there were some differences in nutrition among these three areas. The alfalfa quality was best in Changji. There showed a positive correlation of moisture with crude protein content for square bales of alfalfa. The quality for harvest alfalfa but rained before hay was poor. Besides, the quality for alfalfa in different stages (not lfowering, early bloom, and full bloom) was determined and analyzed, it could be drawn a conclusion that alfalfa has the most crude protein content in early bloom stage. The whole plant of alfalfa has obvious advantage in protein content than alfalfa hay bales. It also be the foundation for farmers to purchase alfalfa with better quality.

Planting alfalfa can not only promote the development of animal husbandry and meet the needs of the consumers for livestock, but also improve soil fertility and the ecological environment. Farmers are the main alfalfa growers in Huang-Huai-Hai region, in this paper, a supply response model of alfalfa planting area has been developed, with statistical data and investigation data, the effects of alfalfa prices and alfalfa area in last term were calculated. The results show that alfalfa planting area only depended on the alfalfa production price in last year and this means that the annual alfalfa price will influence the decision of farmers’ willingness of planting alfalfa.The elasticity of alfalfa planting area to alfalfa export price is 0.837, and the T value is 7.528. Above results proved that there was short-term speculation behavior for the alfalfa planting farmers in Huang-Huai-Hai region. Farmers in this area do not follow principle of maximum profit in alfalfa planting.

In order to understand the production performance of alfalfa cultivars planted in greenhouse, the comparative test on six alfalfa cultivars was made . The results showed that the total hay yield of WL323 alfalfa cultivar was the highest , reaching 18 758.33 kg/hm2. The average regeneration speed of Algonquin alfalfa cultivar was 1.44 cm/d, which was obviously higher than other cultivars. The stem-leaf ratio of cultivar Algonquin with the stubble height of 5 cm was the highest, reaching 0.873 2. The fresh grass-hay ratio of Anti-thrips alfalfa with the stubble height of 5 cm was the highest, reaching 12.846 5. The crude protein content in Alfaking was the highest, being 21.98%.

This experiment was to study the effect of alfalfa grass on the growth performance and physical and chemical indexes of blood of piglets,sixty healthy DLY ternary hybrid piglets with 20 kg height were randomly allocated to 4 treatments with 3 replicates of 5 pigs per replicate.The control group were not fed with the alfalfa grass,5%,10% and 15% proportion of alfalfa grass were added in the diet of 3 experimental groups.Results showed that when adding different proportion of alfalfa grass,the average daily gain were higher than that of the control group,and the 5%,10% proportion of alfalfa grass groups were significant higher than those of the control group (P 0.05).The feed cost per kilogram weight gain of the 15%proportion of alfalfa grass groupwas the lowest (7.90 Yuan),and the 15%proportion of alfalfa grass group was the highest (8.17 Yuan).With the adding proportion increasing,the dry matter digestibility decreased,the 15%proportion of alfalfa grass group was the lowest,and it was

In order to carry out the salt tolerance evaluation of alfalfa varieties and select the salt-tolerant alfalfa varieties ,the effect of different concentrations of NaCl (2 ,4 ,6 ,8 ,10 g/L ) on the main seed germination traits including germination rate ,seedling length ,root length ,seedling weight and root weight was studied for five foreign alfalfa varieties and four internal alfalfa varieties .Results showed that the main seed germination traits were greatly affected by NaCl stress .With the increase of NaCl concentration ,the seed germination rate decreased significantly , the seedling length and root length shortened greatly ,and the seedling weight and root weight also reduced gradually .The influence of high concentration of NaCl on seed germination traits was particularly noticeable .There was great difference among the alfalfa varieties in the response to NaCl stress .The comprehensive analysis of five seed germination traits was also carried out for nine alfalfa varieties ,an
