Toury·Gideon is the leading scholar in the field of descriptive translation studies,and his theory of translation norms offers a new approach for translation studies. Toury divides norms into three aspects,namely,preliminary norms,initial norms and operational norms. Hills Like White Elephants is one of the most famous short stories of Ernest Hemingway,which was collected in the tales of Men Without Women. Based on the theory of translation norms,this paper will try to analyze and evaluate Zhai Xiangjun’s Chinese version of Hills Like White Elephants.
